The movie about Russian ‘Miry’ will be shown in Mongolia

The Mongolian version premiere of the ‘Depths of Lake Baikal’ movie, which was taken to the request of the Foundation for the Protection of the Lake Baikal, on the results of Baikal ‘Mir Subs’ expedition will take place in Russian Center of Science and Culture in Ulan Bator on May 12, 2011. Except for premiere screening of full format documentary it is planned to conduct an international symposium with the participation of Russian Academy of Sciences and Mongolia Academy of Sciences and to launch a photographic exhibition.

The purpose of all these events is to acquaint the international community with the results of the three-year ‘Mir Subs on Baikal’ International Research Expedition. During the expedition, the scientists have made important scientific discoveries, which not only enhance the credibility of Russian science, but also facilitate the development of effective measures to conserve the ecosystem of the Lake Baikal.

The expedition began in 2008 and it was organized by the Foundation for the Protection of the Lake Baikal. 215 hydronauts participated in the expedition, including the Prime Minister of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and President of Mongolia, Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, who has become the only President-hydronaut during the whole period of the expedition. An active part in the expedition was played by 217 Russian and foreign scientists from 12 countries.
