On 23-24 July, 2014 the International scientific and practical conference on environmental issues took place in the conference hall of the hotel “Baikal Riviera” (village Gremyachinsk, the Baikal region of Republic of Buryatia) with participation of the environmental community of the Baikal region and Mongolia. The purpose of this scientific forum is to bring together experts and scientists from Russia and Mongolia on the protection and rational use of natural resources, particularly in the Lake Baikal basin, creating a platform for the development of uniform solutions to pressing problems for nature.
The conference was attended by about 100 people, among them - representatives of the Central Office of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources, the Government of the Republic of Buryatia and the People’s Khural, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, heads and representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Buryatia, Tyva, Transbaikal and Irkutsk regions, as well as other scientific and public organizations of the Baikal region. From the Mongolian part the event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Green Development of Mongolia, the head and members of the National Committee of Mongolia and UNDP representatives of Mongolia.
Official partners of the conference were the GEF (UNDP), the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal and the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation.
Member of the Federation Council, member of the Scientific Board of the Fund, A. Tulokhonov opened the conference with a welcoming speech. He noted the importance of the issues that should be discussed at the forum and told the audience about the work of “Baikal group” in the Russian parliament.
After reports about the main activities of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources and other controlling bodies of the Republic of Buryatia of K.Dremov, A.Lbov and V.Malkhanov the chairman of the Buryat branch of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation and representative of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal B.Tsyrenov. He spoke about the results of the scientific expeditions of the FPLB (“Mirs at Lake Baikal” and “Trans-Eurasian flight: Leman-Baikal”), as well as environmental actions of FPLB over the past 2 years. Particular interest was aroused by the information about the second season of research flights over Selenga delta within expedition “Trans-Eurasian flight: Leman – Baikal”.
