XIX International Science Conference on Naval Geology takes place in Moscow at the P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology on November, 14-18. The participants of the conference include about 600 scientists from all around the world.
Arnold Kirillovich Tulokhonov, a member of the Scientific Board of the Fund and the Director of the Baikal Nature Management Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, delivered a report on the first day of the conference. He spoke about the scientific findings of Mirs at Baikal Expedition, organized by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal in 2008-2010, and emphasized the importance of similar major expeditions for exploration of oceans and the Lake Baikal in particular.
The conference includes sections on marine geology of the Arctic, nanotechnologies, geophysics, sea floor tectonics, environmental geology, biogeochemistry, paleo-oceanology, oil generation, mineral resources in seas and oceans.
The International Science Conference on Naval Geology has been held since 1974. The Conference presents a valuable opportunity for scientific exchange, coordination of research and international cooperation between scientists as well as for education of young scientists.
