Buryat State University (BSU) celebrated its 80th anniversary with a series of scientific conferences. Some of them were devoted to questions of ecology and tourism.
On March 28 on the basis of bio-geographical faculty of BSU the III Republican Scientific and Practical Conference Ecological Problems of the Baikal region took place. Students and young scientists from Buryatia attended the conference. Topics of reports, presented at the conference, were very wide, ranging from the study of the environmental features of the Baikal fauna to the study of ecological and economic aspects of the Baikal region development and its tourist opportunities.
On behalf of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal Boris Danilov, the Fund’s director, addressed the conference participants. He spoke about the Fund activity, its projects such as International Expedition Mirs at Lake Baikal, creation of ecological trails in the special economic zones Baikal harbor, holding of the Internet voting 100 Wonders of Lake Baikal.
Another conference, taken place on March 29 at BSU, was devoted to the tourist development in the Baikal region. The questions of prospects for the development of active forms of tourism in the Baikal region, environmental education and education of youth were considered. The conference participants also discussed the problems of training and skills development in the field of recreation and tourism, travel traditions, and forming of modern types of tourism.
According to the foreign participants a round table discussion held at the conference and devoted to the unification of efforts to promote active tourism in the Baikal region, there is little information about the tourist attraction of Buryatia. The recommendations for the development of domestic tourism, including children tourism were discussed.
“Everybody expressed great satisfaction in the scientific-practical conference”, - said Boris Danilov, participated in the roundtable and plenary sessions of the conference. “I believe that tourists and locals should pay particular attention to the active tourism, as well as to forming of a healthy lifestyle and tender care for the flora and fauna of Lake Baikal”.
On April 1-2, the conference participants from Mongolia and Russia effected an ascent to Mount Munch-Sardyk: one group walked up from Buryatia (Tunka area), another group – from Mongolia (Lake Hovsgol).
