Head of METROPOL Group and PhD in Geography M. Slipenchuk gave a
lecture “Expedition of Mir submersibles in Lake Baikal” at Moscow
State University (MSU), his alma mater, on December 15. He talked
about the preparation for the expedition and the expedition itself,
detailing the discoveries that were made during it.
The guests of honor included Distinguished RF Scientist,
Corresponding Member of the RAS and Distinguished Professor of MSU
A. Kapitsa; Dean of the Geography Faculty of MSU and RAS
Academician N. Kasimov; Director of the Baikal Nature Management
Institute (Siberian Branch of the RAS) and Corresponding Member of
the RAS A. Tulokhonov; as well as Hero of Russia and Professor A.
Sagalevich.
The lecture, during which unique photos and video material made
during the expedition were shown, provoked a great interest among
the audience. At the conclusion of the event, M. Slipenchuk and A.
Sagalevich answered questions posed by students majoring in
geography.
