On May 30, 2011 during an official visit to Russia, the President of Mongolia Ts. Elbegdorj visited the Moscow State University, where he met the faculty staff and the students of the university. The event was attended by M.V. Slipenchuk, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fund for the Protection of Lake Baikal, Professor of Environmental Management in the Faculty of Geography at the MSU.
Friendly Relations exist between the FPLB and the President of Mongolia. One year ago, Ts. Elbegdorj became the world's first presidential hydronaut - he made a dive into Lake Baikal in a Deepwater Mir Submarine during the ‘Mir Subs on Lake Baikal’ Scientific Expedition, organized by the Fund for the Protection of Lake Baikal.
Video of the President of Mongolia’s dive in the Deepwater Mir
was included in the documentary film "To the Depths of Lake
Baikal", which was created by special order of the Fund for the
Protection of Lake Baikal. The movie was produced by RTR-TV, with
the assistance of Mongolia TV and was first shown in Mongolia in
May of this year, in the Mongolian language.
Answering questions of journalists and students, about his
impressions of diving into Lake Baikal, Mr. Elbegdorj said that it
would be nice to organize a scientific expedition of the Mir
Submarines (which are now getting ready to explore Lake Geneva) to
the most beautiful and ancient Mongolian lake - Khovsgol.
