On April 14 the environmental events within the framework of the World cleaning Let's Do It! World Clean Up 2012 and the project Save Lake Baikal took place in the Baikal region of the Republic of Buryatia with the organizational and financial support of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal (FPLB).
These activities were timed to Baikal fishing -2012 that took place in the village Yartsy and was dedicated to the development of fishing sport and tourism in Buryatia. At the same time the environmental side was of great importance as well: about 40 volunteers cleaned the Baikal shore from garbage.
From March 24 to September 25, 2012 the same
cleaning within the action Let's Do It! World Clean Up 2012
will take place around the world, uniting millions of volunteers in
100 countries.
Educational ecological action Pure ice of Lake Baikal,
organized by volunteer team Make a Move within the project
Save Lake Baikal, also took place during Baikal fishing
-2012. More than 30 volunteers who participated in this event
called to respect the purity of the lake, throw garbage in
specially fitted boxes, and gave an example, gathered 80 bags of
garbage.
The project Save Lake Baikal is aimed not only at garbage collection, but also at the introduction of advanced technologies and its utilization. As Director of the FPLB Boris Danilov said: “It is necessary to take out systematically and in proper time the garbage for recycling. This is practically the only sure way to protect ourselves and our children from harmful bacteria, dangerous gases, and chemical compound”.
