The press conference was dedicated to the launch of the Khakusy ecocamp created to help students in the Baikal Region obtain practical experience in ecological and geographic research of tourist activities. Mr Danilov, Director of the FPLB, and Mrs Mantatova, Deputy Dean of Buryatia State University, spoke about camp objectives, campers and a program of this educational project.
The main goal of this project is “ecological and geographic substantiation of recreational activities” and tourism development in Baikal in line with abiding environmental standards. Students and teachers of geography departments from Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude and Severobaykalsk were invited to the camp.
“Ecotourism is developing all around the world. The main mission of our Fund is preservation of Lake Baikal as a unique natural phenomenon valuable for the entire humankind. We invite like-minded people and primarily support environmental education to help prevent uncontrolled tourism at Lake Baikal which welcomes everyone coming to its shore with good intentions”, said Mr Danilov.
