A reception dedicated to the 80th Anniversary of Russian Polar Aviation was held today at the Russian Academy of Sciences. On this date the establishment of the first specialized air subdivision for work in Arctic conditions in March 1931 is celebrated.
During the celebration, the book written by A. Pochtarev and L. Gorbunova entitled "Polar aviation in Russia. 1914-1945" (published by the Paulsen Publishing House) was presented to the public. A press conference devoted to the anniversary of the polar aviation was held in the foyer of the Academy of Sciences. The President of FPLB, A. Chilingarov, the President of the Foundation for Northern and Arctic Areas, Y. Neelov, as well as a prominent businessman, honorary polar explorer of Russia, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Switzerland, F. Paulsen spoke at the meeting.
During the official part of the promotion, which was attended by
the Chairman of the Technical Board of FPLB, A. Sagalevich and the
Deputy Director of FPLB, I. Krylov, the veteran explorers and the
very young explorers of the Arctic - the members of the youth team
of Russia were honored.
Two young polar researchers G. Rudenko and A. Karimov, as well as
their team leader, the aviator A. Begak were presented with
souvenir gifts, on behalf of the FPLB as well.
